“What is Basinonian?” you ask?
Well, “Basinonian” is a nod to AM sports radio host Ron Wolfley, who is a co-host on the Doug & Wolf show on 620 AM – KTAR here in Phoenix. I listen to 620 whenever I am in my car to stay abreast of the day’s sports issues, and would consider myself a fan of the station and it’s on-air personalities.
Wolf has told a story on the air which describes his thoughts on the local topography upon moving to the greater Phoenix area. Locals call this “The Valley of the Sun” but Wolf argues that the Phoenix area is not a valley, but is in fact a basin.
Therefore, Wolf began referring to the listeners of the show as “Basinonians” because we are all people living in a basin. When starting this Arizona sports blog, I couldn’t think of any better way of summing up Arizona sports in one word than with Mr. Wolfley’s “Basinonian”.
So, thank you, Wolf, for providing us with the quintessential title for a follower of Arizona sports.
